TODAY

The Senate is scheduled to vote on a proposal to authorize same-sex marriage.

Authorizing voluntary single-sex classes in public schools will have a public hearing. Senate Bill 6058 would require schools looking to provide such classes to implement an equal single-sex class for both genders, among other regulations. The Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education committee will meet at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the Cherberg Building.

A proposal to exempt higher-education institutions from some competitive contracting requirements will have a public hearing. House Bill 2585 would exempt personal service contracts and goods and services purchases of less than $100,000, in addition to travel arrangements. It will be heard at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room A of the O’Brien Building by the House Education Appropriations and Oversight committee.

Requiring music therapists to be certified by the Department of Health will have a public hearing at 8 a.m. Senate Bill 6276 will be heard in Hearing Room 4 of the Cherberg Building by the Senate Committee on Health and Long-Term Care.

There will be a public hearing on measures to add motorcycles to transportation planning, such as by allowing the state Department of Transportation to reserve highway lanes for the vehicles. Senate Bill 6304 will be heard at 3:30 p.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the Cherberg Building by the Senate Transportation committee.

BILL INTRODUCTIONS

House Bill 2749 would make unlawful ferry conduct a misdemeanor.

DNA evidence would be required to impose the death penalty for aggravated first degree murder under House Bill 2754.
