Tuesday's highlights: North Thurston boys, girls top Black Hills

North Thurston's boys and girls basketball teams both posted victories Tuesday night over Black Hills with the boys team winning in overtime, 61-59, with the girls beating the Wolves, 75-62, in the nightcap.

Boys basketball
A 15-0 run by River Ridge against Tumwater was the difference in the Hawks’ 80-68 home win over the Thunderbirds in their 2A Evergreen Conference boys basketball game Tuesday night. The Hawks improve to 7-3 in EvCo play, and remain one game back of North Thurston for first place. River Ridge and North Thurston meet Thursday. The loss by Tumwater dropped the T-Birds to 5-4. Tumwater had a 47-44 late in the third quarter before the Hawks went on a 15-0 run that stretched into the start of the fourth quarter when two free throws by Harper stretched River Ridge’s lead to 59-47. River Ridge junior Brad Wallace – who tallied a season-high 37 points – hit a 3-pointer to give the Hawks another 12-point lead at 72-60 with 1:52 left in the game. Harper also had a career game with 24 points, including 18 in the second half. Daniel Hinkle and Josh Hanson paced the T-Birds with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Zach Carras’ 18 points wasn’t enough for Northwest Christian in its 68-59 loss to Raymond.

Girls basketball
River Ridge led from start to finish in its 59-46 win over Tumwater in the teams’ 2A Evergreen Confernece girls basketball contest. Senior Kyahri Adams had a game-high 20 points to pace the Hawks, who remain tied for second place in the EvCo standings with North Thurston at 8-2. Tumwater, which fell to 4-6 in league play, was led by senior Carly McIsaac with 19 points.
Tenino is now in a second-place tie in the Southwest Washington 1A Evergreen standings with Onalaska after its 39-36 come-from-behind win over the Loggers. The game was tied at 36-all with 20 seconds left before free throws by Kelli Neer sealed the win.
Allison Sowers’ 12 points and five rebounds led Northwest Christian to a 49-48 victory over South Bend in Pacific 2B play.
