Growth should pay for new schools

The Olympia School District is hoping the taxpayers will open their wallets and continue to subsidize growth by voting yes on the bond levy in February. I support the operation and maintenance levy but not the nearly $100 million bond that will include building a new middle school in southeast Olympia.

In this economy I think the voters should send a message to the school district that it needs to work with the state of Washington to require that growth pays for itself through higher impact fees.

Every time a new subdivision is built, current homeowners pick up the tab. Tell me to take this up with the Olympia City Council and school district board, but I already have and they’re not willing to work to change the situation because they know you will just shut up and pay up.
