Former state lawmaker and longtime Olympia Democratic activist Brendan Williams announced today he is running for Thurston County Superior Court.

You can read his full statement here in which he says wants to serve his community. He also said he’ll seek the Position 4 seat held by retiring Judge Wm. Thomas McPhee.

Williams, who served three terms in the House and was known for his support for labor and progressive causes, has a record of raising large sums for his campaigns. He plans a kickoff event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Mercato Restaurant across from the Olympia Farmers Market.

Williams’ announcement says he’s already picked up endorsements from the Washington State Patrol Troopers Association and from firefighters in Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater.

UPDATE: Williams hasn't reported any fundraising to the state Public Disclosure Commission yet.

UPDATE: Despite several retirements this year, only two candidates have filed to raise money so far.

Local defense lawyer Jim Dixon, who did not specify which judicial seat in his PDC filings, says he is seeking the position Judge Paula Casey is retiring from.

Judge Lisa Sutton is seeking re-election to Position 5.

NOTE: Inaccurate information about Sutton in an early version of this post has been corrected.
