Levy replaces an expiring one

During my many years as a broadcaster, I had an opportunity to visit virtually every school in the Olympia School District. I observed teachers and staff who were dedicated to providing the best education possible. I always came away with a sense of pride and a feeling that surely we have one of the best school systems in the nation. It’s one of the reasons people want to live here.

We’ve managed to do this by supporting our schools. On Feb. 14, we can show our support again by voting “yes” on the Olympia School District’s maintenance and operations levy. Remember, this is a replacement levy to renew a levy that is expiring. This is not a new tax. The district also has a capital improvement bond issue on the ballot. The money is needed for classroom renovations and such things as updating fire alarms and improving the air quality inside our schools. Again, this will not increase your taxes.

I urge you to vote “yes” for schools. It’s for our kids and for our future.
