Clearing sidewalks should be automatic

Now that the snow is becoming a memory, I thought I’d write about the fact that folks – and businesses – didn’t appear to be concerned about walkers, because they didn’t clear their sidewalks!

I live about five blocks from Capital Mall – not one homeowner or business, cleared their sidewalks between my house and the mall. And none of the businesses – Capital Mall, Capital Place, the bank, Outback Square, etc. cleared their sidewalks either. Walkers were forced to walk in the streets – which isn’t too perilous on side streets, but more exciting on Black Lake Boulevard or Cooper Point Road. In Seattle there is a fine for not clearing your walks. Is there one here? I’m 67 and managed to keep my 120 feet clear – can’t the rest of you?

Unless you were out of town, or incapacitated, I see no reason why you couldn’t clear your walks – and shame on the businesses for not doing so!
