Public power doesn’t operate for profit

After spending days without electric power, we get the news from Puget Sound Energy that they are requesting an 8 percent increase in power rates. Thanks!

This is why we need publicly owned power here in Thurston County. Water and power are vital resources, and should never be owned by a private profit-seeking monopoly. (And especially a foreign monopoly – Puget Sound Energy is owned by Australian investors.) Public-owned power will be cheaper because the public utility is only trying to cover costs of operation, not make a profit for investors. We are surrounded by public-owned power utilities( Mason PUD, Gray’s Harbor PUD.) Now there is an organization trying to create a public utility district for Thurston County.

You can reach them at thurstonpublicpower.org They need signatures to get on the ballot in the fall election. We can have public power here in Thurston County. Long ago it was. It can be again.
