“She died doing something that she absolutely loved. With her courageous actions, she has saved lives of others, and there is no greater act of service. I thank you Margaret, and you will be sorely missed.”

– Sen. Tracey Eide, D-Federal Way, speaking to the Senate in support of a resolution to honor park ranger Margaret Anderson.

 • A proposal to allow same-sex marriage in Washington is scheduled for a House floor debate and vote about 1 p.m. Senate Bill 6239 passed the Senate floor 28-21 last week, and Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to sign the legislation.

 • There will be a public hearing on raising the assault of someone “serving legal process” from a fourth- to a third-degree crime. House Bill 2623 will be heard by the House Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness committee, which will meet at 9 a.m. in Hearing Room D of the O’Brien Building.

That committee also will hear a proposal to let the state forensic investigations council better help local jurisdictions identify human remains. House Bill 2647 would let the council use up to $210,000 from the Death Investigations Account to do this.
