Boys basketball: River Ridge earns No. 1 seed into District IV tournament with 72-48 win over Aberdeen

River Ridge boys basketball team claimed a share of the 2A Evergreen Conference title with North Thurston, but earned the No. 1 seed into the District IV tournament after the Hawks' 72-48 victory over Aberdeen Tuesday night.

Although River Ridge and North Thurston are co-champs of the EvCo, the tiebreaker scenario for the district tournament is based the team's head-to-head outcomes with the third-place team, which is WF West. River Ridge swept WF West, while North Thurston went 1-1.

First-round games on the boys side start Saturday, and the top three pairings are set. The fourth and fifth seeds -- which belong to either Tumwater or Black Hills -- will be determined Wednesday night after Tumwater plays Centralia and Black Hills plays WF West. Both Tumwater and Black Hills are 5-6 in EvCo play.

Saturday's 2A District IV boys first-round games
Washougal at North Thurston, 7 p.m.
EvCo 5 at River Ridge, 7 p.m.
EvCo 4 at Mark Morris, 7 p.m.
WF West at Hockinson, 7 p.m.

Boys basketball
Tenino used a big third-quarter spurt to pull away from La Center for a 59-46 victory in a 1A District IV play-in boys basketball game in La Center. Tenino (10-11) will face league rival Onalaska (14-6) Friday night at Centralia in the first round of the 1A District IV tournament. Leading 29-22 at the half, Tenino nailed 10 of 14 third-quarter field goals to take a 49-33 lead going into the fourth quarter. Darrin Love led all scorers with a game-high 16 points, followed by Ben Peterson’s 14.

Girls basketball
River Ridge hit 10 of its first 15 field goals and raced out to an early 28-9 first-quarter lead en route to a 66-45 win over Aberdeen to conclude the regular season. Necy Wade and Kyahri Adams had 15 points apiece to pace River Ridge. The Hawks (12-6 overall) have a half-game lead over WF West for the top spot in the EvCo and the No. 1 seed. WF West plays Black Hills tonight at 7:30. Should the Bearcats beat the Wolves tonight, WF West earns the No. 1 seed into Friday’s District IV tournament, and River Ridge will be the No. 2 seed.
2B District IV tournament
Northwest Christian boys and girls basketball teams open 2B District IV tournament play tonight and Thursday. The NWC boys play Napavine in Montesano tonight at 6:30 p.m., and the NWC girls play Morton/White Pass at 6:30 p.m. in Rochester.
