ALPINE SCRAMBLING

The Olympia Mountaineers will begin their alpine scramble course; alpine scrambling is non-technical climbing that involves off-trail travel to mountain summits; 6:30 p.m. Tuesday; third floor of the Knox Center, 1113 Legion Way, Olympia; $150; olympiamountaineers.org.

WALK THE UPS CAMPUS

The Capitol Volkssport Club will lead a new walk through the University of Puget Sound campus; there will be a 10K route with an 11K option; meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the YMCA Tacoma Morgan Branch, 1002 S. Pearl St., Tacoma; capitolvolkssportclub.org.

HEAR 'RIVER HOUSE' AUTHOR
