Today is Wednesday, Feb. 22, the 45th day of the 60-day session.

QUOTED

“This is an integrated budget, not a buyback budget.”

-Rep. Ross Hunter, D-Medina, announcing the House Democrats’ supplemental operating budget proposal.

TODAY

 • The Navy Band Northwest’s Ceremonial Band will play at noon in the rotunda as part of Navy Day at the Capitol.

 • There will be an 11 a.m. rally for independent living on the Capitol steps, sponsored by Arc of Washington, a group that advocates for the rights of people with developmental disabilities.

 • Federal Communications Commission orders and telecommunications regulation will be the subject of a work session in the Senate Economic Development Committee. It will meet at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room 3 of the Cherberg Building.

 • The management and relocation of nuisance beavers will have a public hearing. House Bill 2349 passed the House 96-0 and will now be heard by the Senate natural resources committee at 8 a.m., in Hearing Room 2 of the Cherberg Building.

 • Requiring health plans that cover maternity care to provide equal coverage for abortion will have a public hearing. Most plans already do this in Washington, but supporters worry health care reform could change that. House Bill 2330 will be heard by the Senate Ways and Means committee at 3:30 p.m. in Hearing Room 4 of the Cherberg Building.

 • That committee is also scheduled to vote on a plan to consolidate health care coverage for public school employees. Senate Bill 6442 would merge the hundreds of plans that currently vary by town.
