A man arrested Friday night at the end of a six-hour long standoff with sheriff’s deputies is a U.S. Army major stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, court papers state.

The Army major, who has yet to be charged with a crime, was ordered held at the Thurston County Jail during a court hearing Monday on suspicion of first-degree assault while armed with a deadly weapon, second-degree assault and fourth-degree assault. His bail was set at $100,000.

According to court papers:

The 38-year-old man is accused of choking his wife and hitting her in the face during a dispute. After the woman fled, leaving their 10-month-old son in the home in the 7000 block of Ninth Avenue, she called 911 about 2:30 p.m. Friday. When a sheriff’s deputy went to the home and entered through the open front door, the man pointed a handgun at the deputy.

The Thurston County SWAT team was deployed, and after about a six-hour standoff, he surrendered to deputies. The child in the home was unhurt.
