Saint Martin's will add six members to Athletic Hall of Fame, Hall of Honor Saturday

Saint Martin's University will add six new members to its athletic hall of fame/hall of honor as the Class of 2012 Saturday night when the Saints' men's basketball team closes out the season hosting Northwest Nazarene. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Marcus Pavilion. The Hall of Fame/Hall of Honor event will include a pre-game reception at 5:30 p.m. in the Norman Worthington Conference Center with a formal presentation during halftime of the basketball game.

Below are the biographies of the six inducees from SMU ...

Hall of Fame inductees:

Arvie Johnson, Jr. ’73: Johnson, of Seattle, Wash., holds the Saint Martin’s men’s basketball record for most rebounds in a single game (29) and most rebounds in a single season (419). A member of the 1972 District I All-Star Team, Johnson finished his Saint Martin’s career with 733 rebounds and 832 points.

Nate Carlson ’04: Carlson was a Division II All-American, Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champion and Saint Martin’s record holder in the 1500m. He also claimed conference championships in the mile and distance medley. A seven-time All-Conference selection and nine-time Academic All-Conference selection, Carlson was named the GNAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2005.

Martina Kartikova Herington ’05, MBA’07: Kartikova, of Olympia, Wash., scored 1,195 points during her three-year career at Saint Martin’s, becoming the school’s ninth all-time scorer in women’s basketball. With 656 career rebounds, she is Saint Martin’s sixth-highest rebounder, and also holds the record for rebounds in a game (21). A GNAC All-Conference selection, Kartikova was a West Region All-American and a First-Team Academic All-American. In 2005, she was named the GNAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Shane Prante ’06: A three-time First-Team All-American, Prante, of Olympia, Wash., spent part of his senior year as the top-ranked collegiate player in the country. As a junior, he was the only Division II player named to an eight-member USA team that played in Japan. In 2005, Prante was a Ben Hogan Watch List Finalist.

The Hall of Honor inductees:

Leo Zaddack ’69: Zaddack, of Lacey, Wash., served as the assistant men’s basketball coach from 1976 to 1985, working under head coaches Len Stevens and Joe Meagher. He helped lead the 1980–81 team that beat Washington State University and the 1982–83 team that won its division. Zaddack closed out his Saint Martin’s career with the women’s basketball team, assisting under head coach Ray Peters from 1987 to 1995. In 1994–95, his final season, the women’s team won its division.

Jack Sareault HS ’53, ’57: A long-time sportswriter for The Tacoma News Tribune, Sareault, of Gig Harbor, Wash., covered college and high school sports from 1963 to July 1986. While attending Saint Martin’s College, Jack was a four-year athlete on the track and field team, and was co-coach of the Saint Martin’s High School track and field team. From 1969 through 2002, he was coordinator of the Northwest College Sports Service, and for 28 years, he held the position of NAIA District I sports information director.
