Black Hills’ Julie Hansen will face Centralia sophomore Anna Scheibmeir for the singles title today. In doubles, Tumwater’s McKenzie Click and Emily Barclift will face W.F. West’s Reile Slattery and Aleassa Wren.
Both contests will be rematches of the EvCo subdistrict title matches.
On Friday, Hansen cruised to straight-sets victories over Centralia’s Dominika Fackovcova (6-1, 6-3) and North Thurston’s Sidney Smith (6-3, 6-1) to reach the title match. Last weekend at the subdistrict tournament, Hansen beat Scheibmeir, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Click and Barclift cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 first-round win over Mark Morris’ Allison Clark and Miranda Locker, then defeated Hockinson’s Tiara Atchley and Jamie Towne, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, to reach the finals.
Tumwater’s No. 3 doubles team of Madelyn and Jocelyn Hougan can play for third place if the sisters get past Centralia’s Megan Kerner and McKailey Fast in a consolation match today.
In a singles consolation match, Tumwater’s Olivia Koelsch will face Fackovcova.
CLASS 1A TENNIS
Beavers dominate: Tenino dominated the one-day 1A District IV tournament at the Vancouver Tennis Club, with all-Beavers finals in both singles and doubles.
Senior Kirsten Jorgensen won her fourth consecutive district title in singles, defeating teammate Shelby Frasl, 6-2, 6-3, for the third straight year. In doubles, Janelle Young and Kelli Neer capped a three-peat as district champions by beating teammates Emily Mankowski and Kaitlin Forest.
It’s the fourth consecutive district team title for Tenino and the third straight year that the singles and doubles finals have been between Beavers teammates.
The 1A state tournament is next weekend at the Yakima Tennis Center.
TRACK AND FIELD
NW Christian sweeps District IV titles: Northwest Christian won the boys (77 points) and girls (143) team titles late Thursday night at the 2B District IV track and field championships at Raymond High School. The top four placers in each event advance to next weekend’s 1A/2B/1B state championships at Eastern Washington University.
NWC senior Lucas Graham won the 800-meter run (1 minute, 58.08 seconds), the 1,600 (4:37.44) and the 3,200 (10:00.74).
On the girls side, Elizabeth Weber won the 800 (2:25.85) and 1,600 (5:31.58) and was second in the 3,200 (12:27.99). Teammate Anna Brooks won the 3,200 (12:27.03).
