Thurston Summer Volleyball League begins tonight; tournament runs throughout June

The Thurston Summer Volleyball League, hosted annually by North Thurston, begins its season tonight, featuring nine South Sound area teams – Black Hills, Capital, Centralia, host North Thurston, River Ridge, Shelton, Tumwater, W.F. West and Yelm. The league features matches every Tuesday and Thursday throughout June at the South Sound Sports Center, 7960 Center Street in Tumwater. Matches are at 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night.

The league is a round-robin format each Tuesday and Thursday until Thursday, June 28, which begins the single-elimination tournament to crown a summer league champion. The event is free to attend and concessions will be available, league director and North Thurston coach Micah McBride said.

Three 2A teams – Black Hills, Centralia and Tumwater – reached the state tournament last fall, and Capital reached the 3A state tournament. Capital will join the rest of the 2A Evergreen Conference starting this fall.
