Brodie Buckland, a 2002 Capital High School graduate, has been selected to the Australian men’s rowing team for the London Olympics later this summer.

Buckland became an Australian citizen earlier this year and was chosen to the Australian team in early June after an injury to a teammate. He, along with James Marburg, who was a silver medalist in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, will form a men’s pair team for Australia. Click here to view Buckland’s Australian rowing profile.

Buckland, 28, rowed for Olympia Area Rowing (OAR) while at Capital. He went on to row at the University of Washington before transferring to Harvard. He continued to row at Harvard and graduated in 2006. He’s been based in Australia the past three years and first competed for his adopted nation in 2010.

“He has worked hard to make his dream of participating in the Olympics come true,” said Marnie Buckland, Brodie’s mother.
