WSP patrol car hit during traffic stop

A Washington State Patrol trooper narrowly avoided injury Tuesday morning after his patrol car was struck during a traffic stop.

The trooper pulled over a car on eastbound state Route 512 near 94th Street when a man driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup broadsided the trooper's unmarked Dodge Charger, according to Trooper Guy Gill.

The trooper was inside the patrol car at the time of the collision doing paperwork.

Damage to the trooper's patrol car was "significant" and no injuries were reported, Gill said.

The crash is being investigated.

State patrol says speed to blame in wreck near Othello

OTHELLO -- Five people from Othello were treated and released from a hospital Friday afternoon after a two-car collision on Highway 26 near Othello, said the Washington State Patrol.

Ignacio Garcia-Ramos, 33 and his passenger Violeta Ramos, 35, were stopped at an intersection waiting to turn left when Jose Arreola, 31, collided with their car, according to the state patrol. Troopers said Arreola was speeding when his Ford Focus collided with Garcia-Ramos' Honda. Arreola had two 8-year-old passengers.

All five people involved in the collision were taken to Othello Community Hospital and both cars were totaled.
