The Thurston County coroner is working to identify a woman whose body was found Tuesday off the side of the road near Yelm.

A driver who’d walked down a dirt road found the decomposing body about noon in the 13100 block of state Route 510 on Joint Base Lewis-McChord training ground property east of the Nisqually Reservation, said Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin.

Coroner Gary Warnock didn’t know the woman’s age range. He said he thinks the body had been there for as long as a couple of months.

An autopsy was conducted Wednesday.

Warnock said his office will try to use the woman’s dental records to identify her.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with neighboring agencies to see if there are any missing people who match the woman’s description, Elwin said.
