Lisa Pemberton, staff writer

It’s Olympia School District superintendent Dick Cvitanich’s first day on the job.

The Tacoma native replaces Bill Lahmann who retired last week. Cvitanich spent the morning meeting district staff and administrators, according to district spokesman Ryan Betz.

Cvitanich served as superintendent of the 3,900-student Lake Pend Oreille School District in Ponderay, Idaho, since 2006. In Olympia, he will receive a $178,275 annual salary.

Cvitanich’s will be the featured speaker during a Thurston Chamber forum at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, at Saint Martin’s University. His first Olympia School Board meeting will be July 16.
