Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic this weekend

About 10,000 bicyclists will ride the 200-mile route from Seattle to Portland this weekend in the 33rd annual Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic.

The riders will travel the route on Saturday and Sunday from the University of Washington to Holladay Park across the street from Lloyd Center in Portland.

Riders of all ages, ranging from children to one 85-year-old participant, come from 40 states, as well as Canada, Japan and Malaysia.

Of the 10,000 riders, 2,500 are expected to complete the 200-mile route on Saturday. The rest of the riders will spend the night at the midpoint of the race near Centralia.

There are four established rest stops along the way in Washington; Kent, Spanaway, Lexington, Centrailia as well as one more in St. Helens, Ore. with food, drink and a place for riders to rest.

Locally, the route will travel through Sumner, Puyallup, McKenna, Yelm, tenino, Chehalis, Napavine and Winlock.
