Police are searching for the driver of a sport utility vehicle that ran over an Olympia man walking Thursday night along Marvin Road, seriously injuring him.

Jared A. Horton, 18, was headed south on Marvin Road near Union Mills Road at 10:15 p.m., walking opposite of traffic on a “very wide, well-lit, paved shoulder,” according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill.

A person in a red or maroon SUV driving north veered off the road and onto the shoulder, hitting Horton head-on, knocking him down and driving over him before leaving the scene.

Horton was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for a cracked pelvic bone, large lacerations to his side and severe road rash, Gill said.

The State Patrol is looking for witnesses or anyone who has seen a maroon or red SUV with “new and suspicious damage” on it. Anyone with information is asked to call State Patrol detectives at 253-538-3176 or 253-538-3249, Ext. 4.
