Tumwater grad and Dallas Cowboys rookie Matt Johnson likely to miss start of training camp with injury

• Published July 25, 2012

Tumwater High School graduate and Dallas Cowboys rookie safety Matt Johnson likely will miss the first few days of training camp next week as he recovers from a left-hamstring injury sustained in June, multiple sources reported Wednesday, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Johnson has only practiced with the team four times – at the three-day mini-camp following April's NFL Draft, and at the final day of the veteran’s minicamp in June. Classes at Eastern Washington also forced him to miss organized team activities (OTAs).

A bicep injury prematurely ended Johnson's collegiate career at Eastern. He finished his career with 17 interceptions and 341 tackles in 45 games played. Johnson is a 2007 graduate of Tumwater, and was a fourth-round pick of the Cowboys in April’s NFL Draft. During his senior season at Tumwater, he earned second-team all-2A EvCo honors at defensive back despite missing five games with an injury.
