Fire reported in Olympic National Forest

A small fire was reported overnight in Olympic National Forest's Hood Canal Ranger District.

The Steel Bridge Fire, approximately ½ acre in size, is in the vicinity of the high steel bridge just off of Forest Service Road 2340. The fire was reported at 3 a.m. Friday and crews from Washington Department of Natural Resources were the first to respond. The cause is under investigation, according to a news release from the department. Access to the fire area is difficult given because it is burning in heavy timber and steep terrain. Two engines were dispatched and a 20-person initial attack crew and one helicopter have also been ordered. No road or area closures are in effect at this time, although closures may be implemented in the future if necessary to ensure both public and firefighter safety, according to the news release.
