Dorsey, an incoming junior at Timberline High School, just wrapped up a successful AAU basketball season with the Portland-based Team ICP (Inner City Players). As a starting wing, Dorsey traveled all around the country to play in showcase tournaments from Oregon to Virginia and was one of the team's leading scorers. Playing at elite tournaments around the country and in front of coaches from some of the nation's top programs, such as Kentucky, North Carolina and UCLA, didn’t faze Dorsey.
“They’re a pretty good AAU team,” Dorsey said of playing with Team ICP. “I got to get my name out there and play against some of the best kids in the nation. I did what I could and try to keep up with them.”
The 6-foot-6, 190-pounder has already drawn a lot of Division I interest. Just last week, Portland State extended a scholarship offer to Dorsey, and Timberline first-year basketball coach Allen Thomas said multiple Division I schools, including several Pac-12 schools, have expressed interest.
“It’s going to be pretty crazy the next few months because of how good he did over the summer,” Thomas said. “Next summer, it’s going to really blow up as far as nationally.”
Already started with a scholarship in hand from Portland State – his first scholarship offer – Dorsey remains level headed as he starts to soak in the recruiting experience. He will take an unofficial visit to the University of Washington Sunday (Aug. 12). UW coaches were seen at the North Thurston Holiday Tournament last December.
“It’s really exciting,” he said. “I don’t know what to think of it. It’s all just happening.”
He also noted he’s in no rush to make a decision on a school just yet.
“Right now, I’m not committing any time soon,” he said. “I’m keeping my options open.”
As a sophomore last year, Dorsey earned first-team all-3A Narrows honors while averaging a team-best 16 points per game for the Blazers, who went 7-13 and missed the playoffs.
