TODAY-SUNDAY -- A little sand between your toes: The Hands On Children’s Museum is hosting its annual sand-sculpture competition and beach party SAND IN THE CITY with master sand sculptors, entertainment and interactive activities for children – all at the museum’s new location off East Bay. Teams are building sand sculptures, and there’ll be a selection of family activities until 4 p.m. today. The beach party happens from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, which is Grandparents Day. As always, admission is free, with a $5-per-family donation suggested. TODAY-SUNDAY -- This festival stinks: That pungent bulb with many health benefits will be the star of the show at the CHEHALIS GARLIC FESTIVAL starting today. There will be food, live entertainment, chef demonstrations, workshops and all kinds of fun. The festival is at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds, 255 N. National Ave., Chehalis. Hours are noon-8 p.m. today, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Free trolleys to the event pick up from the Centralia Amtrak station and in Chehalis from Holiday Inn Express, Denny’s restaurant parking lot, or the 500 block of North Market in downtown Chehalis. TODAY-SUNDAY -- You won't want to be his neighbor: Harlequin Productions presents the world premiere of Carter W. Lewis’ comedy "THE AMERICANS ACROSS THE STREET" about a prize-winning author who spends his days on his porch, railing against the state of the nation. And tonight, Lewis will be on hand to talk about the play after the performance. Showtimes are 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the State Theater, 202 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia. TODAY -- ‘Friday’ film on Friday night: The Movies at the Mansion classic film series continues tonight with 1940’s “HIS GIRL FRIDAY,” starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. Bring your chairs and blankets for the 9 p.m. show at the State Capital Museum, 211 S.W. 21st Ave., Olympia. There will be popcorn and candy for sale and complimentary coffee provided. Admission is free, but a $2 donation is appreciated.

TODAY-SUNDAY -- Musical sleepover under the stars: It’s going to be three nights of music, dancing, swimming, and camping at the annual HELSING JUNCTION SLEEPOVER this weekend. Pack up and hang out under the stars at Helsing Farm, 12013 Independence Road S.W., Rochester. Participating bands include Gary May, The Hive Dwellers, Angelo Spencer et les Hauts Sommets, Arrington DeDionyso’s Malaikat Dan Singa, Nucular Aminals, Hysterics, LAKE, Mt. Eerie, and Maxines. The $40 full weekend pass includes camping and the full lineup of music, and can be purchased online with credit card or at the event with cash only. (Kids younger than 12 get in free.) TODAY -- ‘Life’s Been Good’ to Walsh: JOE WALSH has the kind of rock ’n’ roll career musicians dream of: He’s been a member of a string of successful bands, most notably the Eagles during their “Hotel California” peak. He has had a string of solo hits, including “Life’s Been Good” and “In The City.” He’s also a prolific session musician who has played with the likes of B.B. King and Dan Fogelberg. And he’s in Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 100 Guitarists of All Time. (He’s No. 54.) If you already have your tickets for his 8 o’clock show tonight at Little Creek Casino Resort, consider yourself lucky because it is now sold out. SUNDAY -- Vroom vroom: Join Corvettes de Olympia at the annual CAPITAL CITY 'VETTE FEST IX on Sunday on the show lawn of the new LeMay-America’s Car Museum in Tacoma. The all-Corvette show also will feature a Northwest Association of Corvette Clubs juried Show & Shine with a People’s Choice award. Corvette owners can register to show their beauty the day of the event. Those who just want to admire the cars get in free.
