Timberline (0-0) at River Ridge (0-0), 7 p.m. Friday, South Sound Stadium
Outlook: If offense is what you like, this game could feature a lot of it. Seniors Brad Wallace (River Ridge) and Spencer Crump (Timberline) are explosive players who tallied a combined 2,180 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns in 2011. Timberline is expected to have more success in the rushing attack with the addition of Anthony Hicks, a former Tumwater running back who was an All-American at Pacific Lutheran, who is the Blazers new run-game coordinator.
River Ridge hadnt won a game in this series since 1998, when the Dale Chase-led Hawks team defeated Timberline, 29-14, and eventually went on to the state quarterfinals. Timberline leads the all-time series, 15-2.
Tumwater (0-0) at Shelton (0-0), 7 p.m. Friday, Highclimber Stadium
Outlook: For the first time since both teams were members of the Pacific-9 Conference, Shelton and Tumwater meet up. Shelton coach Matt Hinkle played for Tumwater coach Sid Otton in the late 1970s. The game also will feature future Division I and Pacific-12 football players: Shelton tight end David Ajamu (Oregon State commit) and Tumwater lineman Jaimie Bryant (Washington). The Highclimbers didnt have much success with its spread offense in 2011, and decided to switch back to their traditional power-run game, led by senior running back Ralph Kinne. Bryant is Tumwaters lone starter from the 2010 team which defeated Archbishop Murphy for the 2A state title.
