Olympia police conducted an “exhaustive search” around the South Capitol neighborhood Thursday afternoon after receiving a report of someone who fit the description of the man who attacked a Thurston County judge.

The search began about 3 p.m., Sgt. Rich Allen said. It was called off about two hours later, he added.

District Court Judge Michael “Brett” Buckley answered his door about 9:30 p.m. Monday and was met by a man who threw an unknown caustic liquid in his face. The man fled. Buckley was not seriously hurt; he was treated and released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was back at work Wednesday, showing no ill effects.

Police have released a sketch of the attacker, based on Buckley’s description. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Chris Johnstone at 360-709-2793.
