Friday Football Recap: Capital tops third 4A team; Yelm running back becomes school's all-time career rusher

• Published September 15, 2012

Yelm senior running back Jacob Swilley became the school’s all-time leading rusher Friday during the Tornados' 45-6 win over Stadium at Stadium Bowl. Swilley finished the game with 19 rushes for 245 yards and four touchdowns to surpass Keith Lazelle’s all-time mark of 2,603 yards, and now has 2,639 career yards. Lazelle graduated from Yelm in 1971. Swilley also tacked on four more touchdowns to his career total (36) and now is six away from Lazelle’s all-time touchdown mark. Swilley set the record with a 70-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

“It was really cool,” said Yelm coach Randy Swilley, who also is Jacob’s father. “He works really hard and he deserves it. He would be the first guy to tell you it’s because of his teammates, and he’s right.”
