Tenino native/W.F. West junior Nike McClure verbally commits to Washington State for women’s basketball

• Published September 17, 2012

Nike McClure, a 6-foot junior post, gave a verbal commitment to the Washington State women’s basketball program over the weekend.

McClure spent her first two years of high school at Tenino and recently transferred to W.F. West in Chehalis.

As a sophomore at Tenino last season, McClure had a breakout season. She averaged 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game, leading the Beavers to the 1A state regional tournament and a second-place finish in the 1A Southwest Washington Evergreen Division. In a 53-41 win over Rochester on Jan. 6, McClure had 23 points, 26 rebounds and 18 (yes, 18) blocks. She was a member of The Olympian’s 2011-12 girls basketball all-area second team.

On the WSU women’s basketball roster is Elma’s Brandi Thomas, a junior who was a two-time 2A EvCo MVP in 2008-’09 and ‘09-’10.
