Capital High School senior Ryan Doenges has been named a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. He recently transferred to Capital from Bellarmine Preparatory School in Tacoma.

To qualify for the scholarship program, students must score in the top 1 percent on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. will award 8,300 scholarships worth more than $32 million next spring.

The organization releases names based on the school the student attends when they took the PSAT, so Doenges wasn't included in its list for Thurston County. To view a recent story about other semi-finalists in the program, click here.
