Three to see: Week 4

• Published September 21, 2012

Shelton (3-0 overall, 1-0 3A Narrows) at Yelm (3-0), 7 p.m., Friday, Yelm Stadium
Not sure many picked these two programs to be 3-0 heading into Week 4. This matchup will feature two of the area’s top running backs -- Shelton’s Ralph Kinne and Yelm’s Jacob Swilley. Kinne already has tallied 896 yards rushing and six touchdowns through three games, including rushing for 359 yards on 42 carries in last week’s 35-25 win over Wilson. Swilley also had a big week in Yelm’s 45-6 win over Stadium, becoming the school’s all-time leading rusher after a 245-yard, 19-carry performance. He broke Keith Lazelle’s career mark of 2,603 and now has 2,639 career yards. Lazelle graduated from Yelm in 1971. Expect this to be a fast game since both teams like to run the ball, but it will also feature a lot of points.

North Thurston (3-0 overall, 1-0 3A Narrows) at Lincoln (3-0, 1-0), 7 p.m., Friday, Lincoln Bowl
If you can make the trip up to Tacoma for this one, you shouldn’t be disappointed. Both teams come into their second 3A game after dismantling their opponents in their league opener. North Thurston shutdown Foss, 50-14, and Lincoln, a 55-0 win over Mount Tahoma. This will be the Rams’ biggest date, and thus far, have relied heavily on their running game with Brandon Belisario (301 yards, three TDs) and Mo Manning (235 yards, five TDs). Quarterback Ryan Mets has completed 56 percent (21 of 38) of his passes through three games. Lincoln features a dual-threat quarterback in junior J’Maka Love, who’s thrown for 566 yards on 38 of 64 completions and 10 touchdowns, and also rushed for 199 yards on 34 carries.

Tumwater (2-1 overall) at Capital (3-0), 7 p.m., Saturday, Ingersoll Stadium
What better way to open the 2A Evergreen Conference slate for both teams than this matchup. The winner likely will have the inside track to the 2A EvCo title; Tumwater has won the past two league titles. Top-ranked Capital has been a big surprise by winning all three of its nonleague games against 4A opponents, most notably a 27-11 victory over 4A Bothell last week behind Kai Van Sickle’s 224 rushing yards. Tumwater’s Andrew Brown has proven to be a dangerous return man. The T-Birds’ tailback, also the two-time defending 2A 400 meter state champion, has returned two punts, an interception and a kickoff all for touchdowns. His longest punt return is 94 yards (in Week 1 against Shelton) and his interception return was for 100 yards (in Week 2 against Timberline).
