SOUTH SOUND HIGHLIGHTS
Defending 4A state champion Olympia pulled out a 23-25, 25-13, 26-24, 26-28, 15-13 win over South Kitsap in 4A Narrows League volleyball. Michaela Berendt and Rachel Kelso tallied 13 kills each, and Kayla Thaller was 25-for-25 serving with 20 assists. North Thurston earned its sixth win in a row with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-14 3A Narrows League sweep of Mount Tahoma, led by Brittany Rutherford (nine kills, four aces) and Megan Kramer (23 assists). Hope Mortensen (17 kills, nine digs), Marney Wilson (22-for-22 serving, three aces) and Mariah Kramer (32 assists, six digs) led Black Hills to a 25-18, 25-20, 25-10 2A EvCo sweep of W.F. West. Jacey Watson and Sarah Warner combined for 27- for-27 serving with six aces to give Tumwater a 25-18, 25-14, 25-11 sweep of Centralia. Dani Tabor had a match-high 12 kills and five aces in Capital’s 25-8, 25-10, 25-11 sweep of River Ridge. Sisters Emily and Megan Van Marter combined for 12 aces and 12 kills to lift Northwest Christian to a 25-14, 24-26, 25-11, 20-25, 15-8 win over Ocosta in Pacific 2B volleyball. Krista Jones, playing her first game in goal this season, had five saves in Timberline’s 3-0 3A Narrows League win over Shelton in girls soccer. Logan Cox scored two goals to lift Capital to a 4-1 2A EvCo victory over River Ridge. Behind Payton Goodwin’s victories in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 41.07 seconds) and 100 butterfly (1:14.02), Timberline beat Mount Tahoma, 110-68, in a 3A Narrows League girls swimming dual. COLLEGES Behind Carrie Starbuck’s team-high 12 kills, Saint Martin’s volleyball team won its Great Northwest Athletic Conference opener with a 26-24, 25-23, 18-15, 25-21 victory over Alaska Fairbanks at Marcus Pavilion. mwochnick@theolympian.com
