Chambers Prairie custodian gets fond farewell on last day of work

TONY OVERMAN

Staffers and students gave Chambers Prairie Elementary School custodian Lenny Ereth a fond farewell Friday, his last day after nearly 22 years with North Thurston Public Schools.

Ereth retired after spending the final four years at the brand-new Chambers Prairie Elementary in Lacey.

“I was here before the school opened,” he said. “I’m the first one here every morning.”

Students made fake mustaches that they wore as they lined the sidewalk in front of the school, chanting “Lenny! Lenny! Lenny!” and offered hugs goodbye.

“He did everything,” said secretary Debi Marmion, from cleaning up messes in the hall to cheering up kids when they were feeling down. Ereth said he plans to spend the next five months relaxing in Arizona.
