There may be better options than Prop 1MICHAEL WILSON
We may be going down the wrong path with Proposition 1. Unfortunately, the public is left to believe that there are only two choices: a government PUD or a government-granted monopoly. Why not a third choice? Maybe we should have an opportunity to choose our electricity provider from a number of companies. Ten years ago, Texans opened up the electricity market in their state and today homeowners in many parts of Texas can choose from a number of providers offering various rates and plans, rates that are often lower than what we have in Washington state. For one ZIP code in Houston, I found more than 100 options with rates starting as low as 6.6 cents per kwh and going up to 13 cents per kwh. We can do better than Proposition 1 and save money at the same time.
