This week is the sixth-annual National Teen Driving Safety Week, focusing on keeping young drivers safe behind the wheel.

This year’s theme is “Share, not Scare,” promoting parents and teens to talk about positive driving behavior, including wearing a seat belt, avoiding distracted driving and adhering to posted speed limits.

Statewide, the Washington State Patrol has stopped more than 23,337 drivers between 16 and 19 years old for speed violations this year, according to Trooper Guy Gill.

Teendriversource.org is hosting a live chat on Twitter Thursday to discuss distracted driving, peer passengers, seat belts and other topics about teen driving safety.

Twitter users can follow along and participate by using #teendriving2012.
