Football: The Updated Playoff Picture

• Published October 22, 2012

2A Evergreen Conference
Clinched: Tumwater (4-0, No. 1 seed)
In the mix: Capital (3-1), River Ridge (2-2), WF West (2-2)
Out: Black Hills (1-3), Centralia (0-4)
Lowdown: Three teams, two playoff spots, one regular-season game remaining. In spite of Capital's 42-14 win over WF West last week, the Cougars did not clinch a playoff spot, but can clinch second place win over River Ridge Friday night. There is an outside chance all three teams would be in a three-way tie for second at 3-2 in league play. For that to happen, River Ridge needs to upset Capital and WF West needs to beat winless Centralia. Should there be a three-way tie between Capital, River Ridge and WF West, a Kansas tiebreaker will take place Tuesday, Oct. 30 (time and location TBD), said Scott Chamberlain, WF West athletic director and football commissioner for the EvCo.
Week 10 2A District IV playoff matchups (Nov. 2-3):
-- 2A GSHL No. 3 Hockinson/RA Long at EvCo No. 1 Tumwater
-- 2A GSHL No. 2 Ridgefield at EvCo No. 2 Capital/River Ridge/WF West
-- EvCo No. 3 Capital/River Ridge/WF West at 2A GSHL No. 1 Mark Morris
District IV state berths: Three

3A Narrows League
Clinched: Timberline (5-0), Shelton (4-1), North Thurston (4-1), Lincoln (2-3)
Out: Wilson (2-4), Foss (1-4), Mount Tahoma (0-5)
Lowdown: The Blazers can win the 3A Narrows League title outright with a win over Shelton Friday night at South Sound Stadium. If the Highclimbers win -- and assuming North Thurston defeats winless Mount Tahoma -- Shelton, Timberline and North Thurston will be tied for first place. To settle the tiebreaker for district seeding purposes, point differential will be used. If Shelton beats Timberline, it needs to do so by 14 or more points to earn the league’s No. 1 seed, putting Timberline at No. 2 and North Thurston at No. 3. If Shelton wins by 13 or fewer points -- or if Timberline beats Shelton -- Timberline is the No. 1 seed, North Thurston is No. 2 and Shelton is No. 3.

4A Narrows League
Clnched: Bellarmine (5-0, No. 1 seed), Central Kitsap (4-1)
In the mix: Olympia (3-2), Yelm (2-3), South Kitsap (3-2)
Out: Stadium (0-5)
Lowdown: Lots going on for the final playoff berths, and much of it has to do with Friday's Central Kitsap/South Kitsap matchup:
-- If Central Kitsap beats South Kitsap, and Olympia beats Yelm, Olympia is the No. 3 seed, and South Kitsap is No. 4. But if Yelm beats Olympia, there will be a three-way tie for two playoff spots between Olympia, Yelm and South Kitsap.
-- If South Kitsap beats Central Kitsap, and Olympia defeats Yelm, there is a three-way tie for second between Olympia, South Kitsap and Central Kitsap. But if Yelm beats Olympia, then South Kitsap is the No. 2 seed, Central Kitsap is No. 3 and Yelm is No. 4.

1A SWW Evergreen
Clinched: Hoquiam (5-0), Montesano (4-1), Tenino (3-2), Elma (3-2)
Out: Forks (2-3), Rochester (1-4), Rainier (0-6)
Lowdown: The playoff picture is just about set for the 1As. Hoquiam already is the No. 1 seed, but seeds 2-3-4 are not set yet. Should Elma defeat Montesano and Tenino beats Rochester Friday, Monte, Tenino and Elma will be in a three-way tie for second place and a coin flip would determine seeding for the 1A District IV crossover games.
Week 10 1A District IV playoff matchups (Nov. 2-3):
-- Evergreen No. 4 Monte/Tenino/Elma at Trico No. 1 Woodland/La Center
-- Evergreen No. 3 Monte/Tenino Elma at Trico No. 2 Woodland/LaCenter
-- Trico No. 4 Castle Rock/Toledo at Evergreen No. 1 Hoquiam
-- Trico No. 3 Castle Rock/Toledo at Evergreen No. 2 Monte/Tenino/Elma
State playoff berths: Four
