According to court papers:
Responding officers found a man lying on the ground, unconscious. He received stitches for cuts to his head at a hospital.
A witness told a Lacey police officer that she saw the pedestrian walking south on Homann when a dark-colored pickup also traveling south struck the pedestrian “with the front passenger-side headlight area of the vehicle.”
The Lacey officer found parts from the pickup in the area of the crash, including plastic from the grill and the antenna.
Later Wednesday evening, a sheriff’s deputy received information that the suspect’s vehicle was in the 3700 block of Vassar Loop Southeast in Olympia. The Lacey officer went to the address; at first, the suspect said “something” hit his pickup. Eventually, the suspect said that he had hit something but thought it was a mailbox.
“He said that he did not stop because he was ‘freaked out.’”
Damage to the pickup matched the debris at the crash scene. The suspect was arrested and booked at the Thurston County Jail.
