TONIGHT -- Long career in bluegrass: Who better to play tribute to Bill Monroe, considered the father of bluegrass music, than International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame inductee DEL MCCOURY. He has been performing for more than 50 years and brings his band, including his two sons, to The Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE, Olympia, at 7:30 tonight. TONIGHT -- Sound fusion: The acoustic sound of the BLACKBERRY BUSHES STRINGBAND draws from the deep roots of American traditional music. Fresh off its national tour, the group will play at 9 tonight at the Olympia Ballroom, 116 Legion Way SE. Joining them will be Bellingham band POLECAT. Tickets are $10 or $8 with student ID, and are available at the door.

SATURDAY -- Tiptoe to the ballet: Presented by Ballet Northwest, the OREGON BALLET THEATRE performance Saturday features works by world-famous choreographers George Balanchine and Christopher Wheeldon and artistic director Christopher Stowell. The pieces feature music by Igor Stravinsky, Arvo Part and Cole Porter. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at The Washington Center for Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. SE. SATURDAY -- Undead rock: Get ready for a ghoulish night at the NIGHT OF THE LIVING TRIBUTE BANDS at the Capitol Theater on Saturday. Bands will pay tribute to The Clash, The Cure, PJ Harvey, Devo, the Scorpions, Nirvana and Ozzy Osbourne; the evening will be hosted by Lauren O’Neill, aka Hattie Hotpants of TUSH Burlesque. Join the costume contest for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the 29th annual Olympia Film Festival in November. Doors open at 8 p.m. Saturday for the 8:30 show. SATURDAY -- Magical music: The OLYMPIA CHAMBER ORCHESTRA kicks off its season of “Magic” with a 7:30 p.m. concert Saturday. Violinist Svend Ronning will join the orchestra to play Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. The orchestra also will perform a symphony by the “Spanish Mozart,” Arriaga. SUNDAY -- New music in a cozy venue: South Sound composers Shawn Meloy, Laurel Gonzalo, Scott Cossu, Nicholas Melton, John Vergin and Debra Porter will gather at 7 p.m. Sunday to showcase music they’ve composed, launching what they hope will be a regular OLYMPIA COMPOSERS' FORUM devoted to new music being written right here.
