T-Birds top Cougars for EvCo title
OLYMPIA – The Tumwater High School volleyball team capped off an undefeated regular season, cruising to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-10) sweep of Capital to win the 2A Evergreen Conference title Thursday night at Capital High School. The third-ranked Thunderbirds (14-0) will be the league’s No. 1 seed at the 2A District IV tournament. They’ll face Aberdeen, the EvCo’s No. 5 seed, at 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at Lower Columbia College in Longview. Paige Walker was 24 of 24 serving with six aces for Tumwater, and Hannah Hanson and Karlee Sampson combined for 28 kills. Capital (12-2), with both of its losses coming to Tumwater, will be the league’s No. 2 seed and will play R.A. Long at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 at LCC. Marissa Ottesen had a team-best 21 digs, and Haley Vick had five kills and three blocks to pace the Cougars. Black Hills 3, Aberdeen 2: Marney Wilson (25 digs, nine kills) and Hope Mortensen (12 digs, 19 digs, four aces) led the Wolves to a come-from-behind 21-25, 25-15, 25-12, 22-25, 15-4 victory over the Bobcats to end the regular season. The Wolves are the No. 3 seed into 2A district tournament and will face Hockinson at 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at Mark Morris High School. GIRLS SOCCER Olympia 1, Bellarmine Prep 0: Nicole Fesenbek’s goal in the 60th minute gave the Bears the Narrows League 4A victory over the Lions. Olympia, which defeated Bellarmine, 3-0, on Oct. 2, swept the season series from the Lions. Timberline 5, Mount Tahoma 0: Alyssa Gubser scored her first hat trick of the season with goals in the 65th, 70th and 76th minutes to spark the Blazers to a clean-sheet victory over the Thunderbirds in Narrows 3A action. Three Timberline goalkeepers, Hailey Holdner, Chloe Foster and Macey Schlittler, combined for the shutout. BOYS TENNIS 3A WCD tournament: North Thurston’s top two doubles teams will face off in a loser-out consolation match at 11:30 a.m. today at the 3A West Central/Southwest bidistrict tournament at Sprinker Recreation Center. The Rams’ No. 1 doubles team of Jason Agtarap and Gabriel Rush will play teammates Scott Vannerson and Jooneil Ahn for a shot at playing for the fifth and final berth into May’s 3A state tournament. Agtarap-Rush and Vannerson-Ahn dropped their opening-round matches, but each won their loser-out matches. Vannerson and Ahn topped Shelton’s No. 1 doubles team of John Pentony and Alec Deacon, 6-4, 6-2, and Agtarap and Rush defeated Wilson’s Seth Thomas and Cooper Eddy, 6-0, 1-6, 6-1.
