Before he’s scheduled to arrive in Lacey for the sold-out Saint Martin’s Gala on Nov. 3, celebrity chef Guy Fieri will heat things up in Madigan Army Medical Center’s kitchen.

The restaurateur and host of Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Drives” is scheduled to join Madigan’s culinary staff for some instruction and inspiration before spending time with wounded, ill and injured soldiers from the Warrior Transition Battalion.

The invitation-only event, billed as “An Afternoon with Guy Fieri,” is part of a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Saint Martin’s extension campuses at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, according to university officials.

“We’re excited to host Guy Fieri and look forward to him bringing his culinary magic to our kitchen,” Col. Dallas Homas, Madigan Army Medical Center commander, said in a news release. “Our soldiers from the Warrior Transition Battalion are especially thrilled for the opportunity to interact with this celebrity chef.”

After the event, Fieri will headline Saint Martin’s Gala, an annual black tie affair benefiting student scholarship funds. Last year’s Gala featured chef Mario Batali, and brought in more than $600,000.
