These projects are expected to affect Thurston County traffic in the coming week, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Tumwater to Pierce County line: Sweeping will close the left lane in various spots on southbound I-5 from 8:30 p.m.-4:30 a.m. today-Tuesday.

Olympia: Median wall repair will close the left lane of southbound I-5 at Capital Lake from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Thursday.

Rochester: Utility work will close alternating lanes of eastbound U.S. 12 at Rochester from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Tuesday.

Olympia: Tree cutting will close the left lane of northbound U.S. 101 near Steamboat Island from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

Westbound traffic will be restricted along Interstate 84 Thursday until 4 p.m., according to the Idaho Transportation Department. The right lane will be closed near where I-84 meets I-184 as electricians replace the light bulbs on the underside of the Flying Wye bridge. The ITD will shift the two left lanes of traffic in order to keep two lanes open throughout the construction.

The lighting replacement is expected to be completed this afternoon before most commuters are traveling home, in order to minimize impacts on drivers, according to the ITD.

Road 68 open house is Wednesday night in Pasco

Pasco officials have a message for residents fed up with snarled traffic along Road 68: Help is on the way.

The city has scheduled an open house from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday night at Pasco City Hall, 525 N. Third Ave,. to talk about $1.2 million in upcoming improvements to the signals and the roads. Construction is expected to start in late summer and finish during the fall.

"We want to make sure people know what's coming," said City Manager Gary Crutchfield, adding the road is traveled by 50,000 cars a day.

Major Meridian Street project in Bellingham begins Thursday

BELLINGHAM - A summer-long project to improve traffic flow and safety on Meridian Street begins Thursday night, May 16, between Bellis Fair Parkway and Bakerview Road.

Crews will close the northbound right lane of Meridian from 8 p.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday to set up signs and fences before digging a trench along that side of the street.

Electricity, natural gas and other utilities will be moved into the trench before a new right lane is built on that part of Meridian. The added lane is intended to reduce backups at the Bakerview intersection.
