Several Yelm High School students brought home awards last week from the National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kyle Sneddon, Savannah Hoffman and McKenzie Bostic placed third in the National FFA Agricultural Communications Career Development Event. The competition tested students’ skills in agricultural communications and evaluated how well they can apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. It included a news conference, media plans, marketing tools, writing and editing exercises, a quiz and a 15-minute presentation.

Also at nationals: Becca Foote and Kayla Luoma presented in the Models of Innovation finalist competition; Nick Fredrickson received a national finalist award for his proficiency in Agriculture Repair and Maintenance Entrepreneurship and Jeremy Bagwell received a national finalist award for proficiency in Sheep Production. Meantime, Jaron Burke, Sheridan Lantz, Jayde Milligan and Sian Roche designed and implemented an informational booth about Washington’s agriculture, and scored 96 out of 100 points in the Hall of States Contest.
