Weekend Getaway: Turn Back the Clock Run



What: Lacey Parks and Recreation, the organizers of the Turn Back the Clock Run, think you should use your extra hour courtesy of daylight-saving time on Sunday to do something healthy and support youth track. Their event will have runs of 10 and 5 kilometers and a mile. The courses are relatively flat and more than 700 runners are expected to enter. Portions of the run are on the Chehalis-Western Trail.

Where: Rainier Vista Community Park, 5475 45th Ave. SE, Lacey

When: Sunday, first race begins at 9 a.m.

Getting there: From Interstate 5, take Exit 109 and turn west on Martin Way. Take the first left onto College Street. After three miles take third exit in the traffic circle to 45th Avenue and continue to the park.

Cost: $30 for the 5K and 10K or $15 for the mile run

History: This is the fourth year.

Of note: Proceeds will support parks and recreation youth programs. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each 5-year age group for the two longer runs. All finishers get a ribbon. The mile run is not timed but every finisher receives an award. Registration packets can be picked up today from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. at Lacey City Hall, Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m. or 6:30-8 a.m. Sunday at Rainier Vista Community Park. Only cash and checks are accepted on the day of the event. Strollers and wheelchairs are welcome but dogs, bikes and skateboarders are not permitted.
