The Port of Grays Harbor will take over operations of Satsop Business Park next year, a move the business park's governing board felt was the best way to achieve the park's economic development goals.

Elma-based Satsop Business Park's assets, liabilities and operations will transfer to the port on Jan. 1, according to a news release.

The port plans to operate the business park as a division of its operations and currently is seeking applications for a Satsop Business Park business development director. Current contracts, leases and agreements will be honored and the park's employees will be retained.

The business park's governing board, the Grays Harbor Public Development Authority, had discussed the future of the park the past two years, deciding, in part, to transfer operations to the port because of some employee announcements. Business park Chief Executive Tami Garrow is set to retire in March.

"The easiest thing would have been to stay status quo and hire a new CEO, but I'm proud of our board for being forward-thinking and doing what we believe is best for our community," PDA board chair Steve Poler said in a statement.

Applications for business development director will be accepted through Nov. 15. For more information, contact Mary Nelson, director of finance and administration, at 360-533-9504 or mnelson@portgrays.org.
