Governor’s Ball held in Lacey 43 years ago

The Governor’s Ball of Jan. 15, 1969, was held at the newly completed Capital Pavilion at Saint Martin’s College in Lacey. My husband, Jerry Gray, as assistant to college president Father Michael Feeney, had managed the completion of the newly opened facility.

This was decades before the addition of the Worthington Conference Center. The pavilion was not elegant, made of stone and glass and Persian carpets, but the folks who managed the event decorated it well, and the large crowd had a good time.

All of the reasons for having the Governor’s Ball there again are valid, and I hope it will happen.
