Group discussing commuter rail future

ED HILDRETH

Traffic on our roads is only going to increase and we must start now to find solutions to our transportation needs.

I read with interest your comments about extending commuter rail to the South Sound region. On Friday I convened a meeting of individuals interested in such an issue. I was impressed with the credentials of the persons who attended.

I wanted to put on the table all of the concerns that affect extending rail to our community, but the primary subject was a way to bring together all of the agencies that are discussing and/or planning rail for our area.

One of the outcomes from this first meeting was that transportation from our region to the north needs to be addressed not only at the local level, but also at the state and federal level.

It is only by starting now that we can achieve an efficient and convenient transportation component to our system.
