Fishing Report for Nov. 3

SALT WATER

North Sound: Jigging for squid has been very good off piers in Edmonds and Seattle. Try using a larger weighted jig with a smaller, unweighted jig about 18 inches above it. Also put shrimp scent on them. Look for blackmouth off Satchet Head, Jefferson Head and the Brown’s Bay area.

South Sound: A few coho are still around, and chum are showing along with the winter blackmouth. Blackmouth are typically caught by fishing close to the bottom and using smaller spoons such as the Coho Killer. Chum are usually close to shore and closer to the surface, hitting purple or green hoochies fished slowly. Landing reports show an average of about one blackmouth per boat. Crabbing in the Nisqually Reach has been pretty good.

RIVERS

Carbon: People fishing near the Voights Creek Hatchery have been catching some dolly varden.

Kennedy Creek: Some chum is being caught, but the peak hasn’t been reached. Most anglers are using green or chartreuse corkies and yarn or anchovies under a bobber.

Minter: A few chum salmon have shown up. But the low numbers also mean the crowd hasn’t arrived either.

Nisqually: The action is slow overall, but a few bright coho and some chum are being caught. Anglers are reporting some dark chinook rolling in the river but not biting any offerings.

Puyallup: The flow had dropped to about 4,700 cubic feet per second as of Friday morning. Anglers are reporting catching a few coho using green corkies and yarn.

Satsop: The rivers in the area are still blown out, but flows are dropping. The Satsop topped 17,000 cfs Wednesday and was down to 6,100 cfs by Friday. If you want to get out, you might want to try the Humptulips where the creek flows into the river near the hatchery.

Yakima: The river is in good condition. The action has been a little better in the upper river.

LAKES

American: Trout, some of them large rainbows, are hitting yellow dough baits fished in fairly shallow water. One angler reported catching a 41/2-pound rainbow.

Munn: Trout action has been fair to good in the past week or so. People are having success fishing chironomids. The lake was stocked Wednesday with 500 smaller trout, and 190 1-pound rainbows were planted the week before.

Offut: Trout fishing has been very good. Lot of people are catching limits. Most people are fishing dough bait right off the bottom.

Potholes: The water level is rising, allowing much better access for bass and walleye anglers. Walleye fishing has been on the slow side, but one angler said he caught a 12-pound 8-ounce walleye fishing off the face of O’Sullivan Dam. Medicare Beach has been producing trout up to 4 pounds for bank anglers, as well as some perch in water 16 feet or deeper.

Spencer: This might be a good option for the weekend. The lake has been stocked with more than 5,200 rainbow trout since mid-October. Most of the fish weighed about 1 pound when planted.
