A shout-out from one geographer to others
LARRY MCCALLUMThank you, John Dodge, for your insightful article on Oct. 7 on the science and discipline of geography. Not only are geographers involved in scientific research, but many hold positions in urban and land-use planning, conservation programs and a myriad of disciplines involved with the spatial relationships of man to his environment. In the ancient world, the profession of geography was well-known and is currently a noted profession in the United Kingdom. The variety of subjects that geography embraces makes the discipline very suitable for observing and solving the knotty problems caused by man’s impact on the environment. So, as one with degrees in geography, thanks for the clarification on a beloved subject. I also write these comments for all geographers, sometimes unseen (you know who you are!)
