MEG WOCHNICK; Staff writerFormer Evergreen State College athletic director Dave Weber has been named the new girls basketball coach at Tumwater High School. Weber replaces Dave Littleton, who resigned suddenly two weeks ago because of a family illness.Weber was Evergreens athletic director from 2000 to 2010, and has a lengthy basketball coaching background at the youth, high school and college level that stems back to the 1980s and 90s in the Bay Area of California. Ive always had basketball in my heart, Weber said. Weber, who currently works in insurance, also spent four years coaching fall and summer league basketball at Timberline High School when his daughter, Sasha, was in the program. Sasha Weber graduated from Timberline this past spring and is the schools all-time leading scorer. She currently is a starting guard on the New Mexico State womens basketball team.Dave Weber said he felt he has something to offer to the T-Birds program, which last placed at the Class 2A state tournament as recently as 2011 (fourth). He last was a head coach of a girls program in the early 1990s at Saint Elizabeth High School in Oakland, Calif. Also in the '90s, he coached the mens junior-varsity team at Cal and also was the head mens basketball coach and athletic director at Patten University before coming to Evergreen as the athletic director in 2000.Im really looking forward to (coaching at Tumwater), Dave Weber said. Its unfortunate they had to make a change this way. If you have to jump into a program, theres no better place to go than Tumwater.
