The Evergreen State College former athletic director Dave Weber has been named the girls basketball coach at Tumwater High School.

Weber replaces Dave Littleton, who resigned two weeks ago because of a family illness.

Weber was Evergreen’s athletic director from 2000-10, and has a lengthy basketball coaching background at the youth, high school and college level that stems back to the 1980s in California’s Bay Area.

“I’ve always had basketball in my heart,” Weber said.

Weber, who works in insurance, also spent four years coaching fall and summer league basketball at Timberline High School when his daughter Sasha was in the program.

Sasha Weber graduated from Timberline this past spring and is the school’s all-time leading scorer. She is a starting guard for New Mexico State.

Dave Weber said he felt he has something to offer to the T-Birds’ program, which last placed at the Class 2A state tournament as recently as 2011 (fourth).

He last was coach of the girls program in the early 1990s at Saint Elizabeth High School in Oakland. Also in the ’90s, he was the men’s basketball coach and athletic director at Patten University in Oakland before coming to Evergreen as the athletic director in 2000.

“I’m really looking forward to (coaching at Tumwater),” Dave Weber said. “It’s unfortunate they had to make a change this way. If you have to jump into a program, there’s no better place to go than Tumwater.”
